Large Antique Brushed Silver Purse
Large Antique Brushed Silver Purse
6 inches wide, 2 inches tall and 7 inches deep with a heavy double twisted 30 inch chain
It was July 18th, 1973 when I bought my first Judith Leiber bag. It was featured in the display case of the Joseph Magnim Department Store in Las Vegas. I had to steal some chips from my husband's crap table winnings to pay for it.
At the time, I knew nothing of Judith Leiber. It wasn't until many years later that I realized there was a Judith Leiber plaque inside the bag. By then Judith Leiber was recognized as one of the foremost creators of bags worn not only by celebrities, but by first ladies at their inaugural balls. Since it is vintage, it probably belongs in a museum. In fact it was displayed in the Orlando Museum of Art for several years.
It features heavily embossed ornate silver fittings in a "V" pattern over a brushed silver body. It has a heavy double twisted 30 inch chain which is worn over the shoulder. The clasp is a filagree silver triangle opening to a silver leather lining. This bag was the start of a hopeless addiction to anything Judith Leiber.
